How it works

Per 7-piece set: ~18 cm³ volume; weight depends on material (acrylic 25 g, metal 95 g, heavy resin 35 g).

Total volume and weight scale linearly with set count.

Tier rating is a fun categorical: < 5 sets is pocket-friendly, 5–20 is solid, 20+ is dragon-hoard territory.

How accurate are the weights?

Average per 7-piece set: acrylic ~25 g, metal ~95 g, heavy resin ~35 g. Individual sets vary ±20%.

Does it account for the bag itself?

No — only the dice. Add ~30 g for a typical drawstring bag.

Why does dice material change the weight?

Acrylic and resin dice are light, while metal dice can weigh several times more for the same size because of their density. Selecting the material lets the estimate use the right density for the volume.

What is in a standard 7-piece dice set?

A standard polyhedral set contains one each of the d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, plus a percentile d10 marked in tens. That covers every die needed for most tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons.

Per acrylic 7-piece set: ~18 cm³ and ~25 g. Multiply by 15 and you're in dragon-hoard territory.

Common pitfalls

  • Metal dice are heavier than the average and can damage shared bags — pad before mixing.
  • Storage box volume needs ~30% buffer for the dice to fit comfortably.
  • Resin specialty dice can vary widely in density.

Drawing without replacement

A dice bag or token pool draws without replacement, which behaves quite differently from rolling dice. Each draw changes the composition of what remains, so the odds shift as the bag empties — the opposite of dice, where every roll is independent and the bag never runs down.

That is what makes bag-draw activation systems feel different at the table. Late in a round the remaining draws become increasingly predictable, and a player tracking what has already come out has real information that a dice system would never give them.

The gambler's fallacy, inverted

With dice, believing a result is "due" is a fallacy. With a bag, it is correct — if the bag started with four red tokens and three have been drawn, the last one genuinely is more likely with each draw that is not it.

This inversion catches experienced players who have trained themselves out of the dice version. Bag draws reward counting; dice rolls punish it.
